Delights of the Lake

Between relaxation and discovery you can explore in family Lake Ahémé legends and its environment. Gently in the morning, you wake up with a panoramic view of the traditional villages out of the mist.

Length of the stay: 10 days. Price (not a fixed rate): 1145 Euros.

Program of the stay:

Day 1: Welcome at the international airport Cardinal Gantin and night in a hostel at Cotonou.

Day 2: Departure for Possotomé. You’ll spend the day lazing around the lake Aheme and meetings with local eco-guides. Dinner and night in a hostel.

Day 3: After breakfast on the terrace on stilts, you can watch the morning mist rise over the lake and even see the fishermen going out to seek for your lunch. Early in the afternoon you’ll go for a trip to the traces of voodoo culture. A walk from village to village and you will experience the traditions of fishermen and farmers. The villagers have no specific currency but keep on with the old system of bartering. Back at the hostel, you can enjoy typical local dishes. Night in the hostel.

Day 4: A great day awaits you! After breakfast, you will go to meet Kpétou villagers. Women in this village share their ancestral culture they preserved with you and you can luckily have time to learn, the importance of alternative medicine. Herbal medicine, herbs, and tasting tonic herbal tea are obligatory.

Day 5: Your morning time is free and you can make exchanges about the previous day. After lunch, the adventure continues with an introduction to fishing on the lake, and to the knowledge of the fetish culture. On the calm waters for inexperienced to traditional techniques of fishing, the swimwear is required. After this sweet day, you return to the hostel where lunch awaits.

Day 6: After breakfast, you’ll be heading to Grand-Popo for a day lazing around the ocean. Pinnace is optional (see below). Dinner and night at the hostel.

Day 7: Ouidah discovery in 24 hours!

Day 8: Breakfast and back to Cotonou followed by a city trail. Lunch and visit of the handicraft center. Ends of the stay. Boarding at the airport.
