Vodoun: myth, magic or religion?

Voodoo, subject to controversy, Voodoo viewed as devil, voodoo symbol of fetish! These are the conceptions of voodoo and its practices by ordinary man.Indeed, for many years the concept of voodoo has been painted in black and even today, its detractors continue to maintain the haze about the quintessence of this practice and movies showing bad aspects on voodoo on screens, undoubtedly mislead people who compare it to magic and fetishism practices. Some people, the mere mention of voodoo arouses disdain … scared.
The Voodoo, actually, is a religion like all other religions, based on norms and principles of its own. It is a concept which is broad and its originators were right by dividing it into different entities. Thus all elements of the universe: heaven, earth, water, air, fire, etc… are different entities making up Voodoo.
In our research, through discussions we had with voodoo priests and followers of this religion so controversial, it appears that the voodoo is merely the representation of God on earth … And this Almighty God is called MAHU LISSA. All the other little gods such as LEGBA, SAKPATA, HEBIOSSO, GU etc… are like saints, real ladders to accede to MAHU LISSA, the Almighty. The proof of it is that when you have the chance to attend a voodoo ritual, the priest or priestess of voodoo always calls upon God in the sky. In a nutshells, Voodoo is neither magic nor fetish practices.
